The pace of modern life leaves many of us having to deal with lots of stress – probably more than any previous generation. There are numerous ways (as well as getting regular massages) you can deal with and even avoid stress:
- Practice prioritization. If you have a lot of things to do, decide which ones are the most important, which things are not so important and finally which things are not important at all. Put all your energy into the most pressing matters and leave the other things on your list for another time. Don’t feel you have to get everything done right away.
- Don’t be afraid to delegate. It’s all too easy to try and shoulder the day’s responsibilities yourself but trying to do too much is a sure fire way to become overwhelmed and stressed. Ask colleagues and loved ones to take some of your workload. Often, we do too much ourselves out of misplaced feelings of responsibility – the need to constantly be in control. Passing some of your workload to others is not a sign of weakness or laziness but merely shows you are good at managing your resources.
- Finally, manage your time effectively. There are 24 hours in the day so look for ways to get the most done in the time you have available. Surfing the internet, posting facebook status updates and pinging texts to your friends although fun are not the best use of your valuable time. Minimise these distractions and you may well find you have a lot more time than you realised.
